Now, as I mentioned earlier we are not a society that is very interested in wisdom. The church in Corinth seems to have been divided over the question of who had true wisdom, which is not something we’re likely to lose friends over. We are, on the other hand, as Victoria Osteen knows very well, a society that is very interested in happiness. I’m no exception. If someone did the same stupid thing over and over again in ancient Corinth, his friends would ask, “Why is he so foolish?” If someone does that today, I think, “Why is he making himself so miserable?”
